Since the release of AOM V4.0.1, a small bug has come to light. Custom page boxes should be removed from the list when the page ID is taken out. However, when you attempt to do this, the text comes back upon saving; So the box stays as well. Of course, if you remove any links to this page, it’s as good as gone anyway. But it’s a waste of space to have the box hanging around in your control panel. The good news is that Justin is aware of this, and a fix will be forthcoming in the next release. Details and dates are still being worked out.
Recently in the forum, someone asked about creating a tab that links to an external site. This has come up before, and I worked on a solution that went to a custom page with a redirect. But it didn’t work if the SEO/htacces section was turned on. So when it was asked again, I had another look on the net for a better solution. What I found was this code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC “-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN”>
<meta http-equiv=”REFRESH” content=”0;url=http://www.site-you-want-to-link-to.com”></HEAD>
Put that into a custom page box set to ‘Raw HTML‘. Make sure the ‘Tab’ option in the top right corner of the box is checked, along with the usual settings required. Change the Page Title and URL in the code above to match the site you want to go to, and you should be set. I’ve checked this with v4.0.1, and the .htaccess turned on and off. Seems to work fine for me.
